Regional Breast Care Center and Bone Densitometry Department
Dedicated to saving lives through early detection, our Regional Breast Care Center is located at St. Joseph Healthcare Park, 900 Broadway in Bangor. It provides several modes of screening and diagnostic breast imaging, including both digital and film mammography and breast ultrasound. Other services include clinical breast exams, needle localization for biopsy, fine needle aspiration and core biopsy, along with breast health and breast self-exam education and community education. There is also a community Breast Health Resource Center in the St. Francis Center, opposite the Hospital's Center Street entrance.
In conjunction with the Radiology department at St. Joseph Hospital, MRI-guided breast biopsies are also available. This new diagnostic tool allows early detection and, if necessary, rapid outpatient biopsies for younger women who have been identified as having significant risk factors for breast caner.
The Bone Densitometry department, located in the Regional Breast Care Center, provides DXA scans and other modalities to detect and diagnose osteoporosis, a disease which causes thinning of bone. Women, particularly those past menopause, are especially at risk.
