Osteoporosis Research
The MeCORE Laboratory was founded by Dr. Clifford J. Rosen, one of the leading scientists in osteoporosis research. Though Dr. Rosen recently relocated to Maine Medical Center Research Institute in Scarborough, Maine, the MeCORE Laboratory continues to operate under his direction and is housed at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor, Maine. Dr. Rosen conducts human subject studies and employs mouse model systems to further understand the mechanisms involved in bone acquisition and resorption. The MeCORE Laboratory has been involved in numerous collaborative projects, including multi-year/multi-visit human studies and extensive research using primarily mice and rats.
The MeCORE Laboratory is a research facility specializing in the analysis of hormones and proteins related to bone metabolism. We use standard radioimmunoassay (RIA), immunoradiometric assay (IRMA), enzyme immunoassay (EIA), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) techniques to measure these bioactive compounds. Our primary focus is on Insulin-Like Growth Factor (IGF-I) and its associated binding proteins (IGFBP-1, IGFBP-2 and IGFBP-3), although we also routinely measure other compounds, for example Mouse Osteocalcin and Mouse TRACP 5b. New assays are continually being added to our selection of available tests.
