St. Joseph General Surgery
Staffed by Dr. David Rydell, the St. Joseph General Surgery practice offers a range of general surgical procedures, from esophageal surgery to colonoscopy, with a particular focus on anti-reflux surgery.
Dr. Rydell is the only physician in Maine offering the Trans oral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF) procedure - a patient-friendly method for treating chronic acid reflux disease (GERD).
St. Joseph General Surgery offers many services, including the following:
- Hernia repair. Many hernias are now repaired using minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques.
- Gallbladder removal. Most gallbladder procedures are also performed laparoscopically.
- Bowel surgery. Used to treat a variety of colon and rectal diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis or Chron's disease, diverticulitis, hemorrhoids and more.
- Esophageal surgery. Performed to treat esophageal cancer, reflux disease or GERD, as well as motility or functional disorders.

Surgical procedures are performed in the modern Surgery Center at St. Joseph Hospital with its caring staff, including its own dedicated anesthesia team.

David Rydell, DO
Dr. Rydell has been a trauma and general surgeon for the past eight years in Bangor. He completed his residency through Michigan State Medical School at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, a part of Midwestern University.
