St. Joseph Hospital opened the Maine Center for Osteoporosis Research and Education (MeCORE) in September 1992 under Dr. Clifford Rosen's leadership. Dr. Rosen is considered a leading national authority on osteoporosis.

Though Dr. Rosen has relocated to Maine Medical Center Research Institute in Scarborough, Maine, MeCORE still continues to operate a research laboratory under Dr. Rosen's direction, specializing in the analysis of hormones and proteins related to bone metabolism.

While at St. Joseph Healthcare, Dr. Rosen and his staff were involved in numerous clinical trials and research projects relating to osteoporosis.
